Manila, Philippines – The Amihan National Federation of Peasant Women exclaimed that VP Leni Robredo’s slate was not a “united opposition” without those who opposed Duterte as well as Marcos for 24/7.
“Atty. Neri Colmenares, a human rights defender, champion of workers, peasants and other marginalized sectors, is a genuine opposition to the bone, against the abuses, anti-people and anti-peasant women policies of the Duterte regime. Excluding him to the ‘united opposition,’ is symptomatic that it is not,” Zen Soriano, National Chairperson of Amihan said.
The group said that VP Robredo should shed light on who persuaded her against including Colmenares on her slate.
The peasant women group asserted that patriotic leaders such as Colmenares and labor leader Elmer “Ka Bong” Labog are worthy to occupy seats in the senate to advance the interests of poor and marginalized sectors in the country.  They contrast the usual composition of the senate which is usually of bureaucrat capitalists, fascists and imperialist lackeys. ###
