The National Federation of Peasant Women (Amihan) appealed to the national and local government for an immediate delivery of food and cash aid to the families affected by Typhoon Ambo which has made its sixth landfall in San Andres, Quezon this morning.
“Farmer families have suffered more than enough due to the impact of COVID-19 and the lockdown. The national and local government units should ensure urgent delivery of assistance to ensure that they will survive from the pandemic and the typhoon,” Amihan national chairperson Zenaida Soriano said.
She added, “The national government should also step up its disaster response as local government units have already used up much of its resources in battling COVID-19.”
“As thousands of families need to stay in evacuation centers, health protocols should be observed including physical distancing and monitoring of the evacuees’ health status. They should also be provided with sanitary and protective equipments as well as multivitamins to minimize the risk of infection,” Soriano said. The group also urged various groups and individuals to help and support the typhoon-hit communities through donations of basic necessities such as food, toiletries, PPEs, multi-vitamins and other needs. ###
